The 2024 Alder Spelling Bee was held yesterday in the auditorium, and 68 spellers competed. The bee lasted nineteen rounds and an incredible 459 words! The final four spellers were all sixth graders. The champion was Nyla McGlynn, with second place going to Nolan Paras. There was a spell-off for third place, with Mia Contreras taking it. Fourth place went to Shyan Jahangir.
Some of the words that were spelled correctly included: moira, megaron, hypocaust, sphagnum, dendrochronology, pinyin, luciferin, senescent, conjunto, Versailles, and retinitis pigmentosa. The championship word was fibbery.
Nyla will next be representing Alder and EHT at the South Jersey Spelling Bee against other school champions from throughout South Jersey. Good luck, Nyla… we’re sure you’ll do an amazing job yet again!
Congratulations to all of our competitors today on an impressive display of spelling. Shout out to Mr. Mason for pronouncing and to Mrs. Rutkowski for being the scribe. You’re the best!
