2022 Fernwood Spelling Bee
The 2022 Fernwood Avenue Middle School Spelling Bee was held on Tuesday in the auditorium. The bee lasted a record 57 rounds! The final two spellers, eighth grader Rishan Rashed and sixth grader Shreevas Arunprasad, went back and forth for an unbelievable 45 rounds before Rishan was ultimately declared the champion. Third place went to 6th grader Lauren Do and fourth place was Tammy Le, an eighth grader.
Some of the words that Rishan spelled correctly included: transept, brocade, fortuitous, throes, mien, poultice, coracle, d'orsay, refectory, Kaddish, Arapaho, Quasimodo, bivouac, ziggurat, allee, linsey-woolsey, and Chelonia.
Rishan will next be representing Fernwood and EHT at the South Jersey Spelling Bee on March 12th against other school champions from throughout South Jersey. Good luck, Rishan… we’re sure you’ll do an amazing job representing Fernwood.
