2023 Fernwood Spelling Bee
The top three spellers: (L-R) advisor Mr. Warner, 3rd place Harsha Annangi, 2nd place Shrey Nandi, and champion Sandhana Rajesh. The spellers were all VERY impressive.
The 2023 Fernwood Avenue Middle School Spelling Bee was held yesterday in the auditorium, with 42 spellers competing. After 23 intense rounds and 280 words, a champion was determined. Sixth grader Sandhana Rajesh won for the second year in a row, after previously winning at Miller as a fifth grader. Second place went to 7th grader Shrey Nandi. Harsha Annangi, a sixth grader, finished 3rd. The championship word was despot. Some other words that were spelled correctly included: preternaturally, Zimbabwe, parathas, Sikhism, thurible, eurhythmics, and doppelganger. Afterwards, the students and family members in attendance enjoyed some snacks, talked about the event, and had some fun.
As the Fernwood champion, Sandhana will move to compete against other school champions at the South Jersey Spelling Bee in March. Good luck, Sandhana!
Congratulations to all of our competitors yesterday on an impressive performance!
